Derek Mason – Author of ‘Will It Stand Up? A Professional Engineer’s View of the Creation of the London 2012 Olympic Stadium’. This book provides you with a blueprint to assist in building your personal and business reputation. I introduce the Seven Principles for Running a Successful Project. They are demonstrated and discussed by using the London 2012 Olympic Stadium as an excellent example of how they were applied successfully. Also included are examples of other construction projects where I have implemented these principles.
History
Super Structures Associates was founded in April 2011 by Derek Mason. Whilst continuing to work in the day job, like most entrepreneurs, Derek began taking on a few small projects, working in the evenings and at weekends from his summerhouse at the bottom of his garden.
Once the business started to grow, Derek took the leap of faith and resigned from the day job in June 2012 and dedicated himself to growing Super Structures Associates.
Meet the Team
Director
Derek Mason CEng PrEng MSc(Eng) MSAICE MICE MIStructE is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 35 years’ experience in the field of structural engineering. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in South Africa and has worked on projects of various sizes and complexity in many parts of Africa and has worked in the UK since 1998.
Personal Assistant
Jennifer has worked as a Personal Assistant for 20 years and joined SSA in 2018. Jennifer is involved in the marketing and client relations at SSA, as well as assisting Derek and all the structural engineers with their administrative needs for their projects.
Structural Engineer
Robbie joined SSA in 2016 having completed his MEng studies at the University of Brighton.
During his time with SSA, Robbie has worked as the design engineer on over 100 projects. A few personal highlights of his include:
Structural Engineer
Matt graduated with a MEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Portsmouth. With previous experience working for a piling sub-contractor, Matt joined SSA in April 2018.
Structural Engineer
Alex completed his BEng (Hons) in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The University of the West of England in 2020 and went on to complete his MSc in Structural Engineering from Brunel University in 2021.
Graduate Structural Engineer
Justin’s journey began in Damascus, Syria, where he started studying Civil Engineering. He then traded shawarma for fish and chips to complete his studies at West London University, graduating in July 2019.
CAD Technician
Mark joined SSA in 2023 as a Structural CAD Technician. With extensive experience in both commercial and residential projects, Mark has been involved in many new build and refurbishment projects during his career spanning three decades.
